FBI director publicly confirmed secret investigation into Donald Trump team's possible links to Russia during US Presidential election on Monday.

The US media has for months reported that the bureau was probing possible collusion between Russia and the team of President Trump.

The head of the FBI James Comey has for the first time publicly confirmed before the House Intelligence Committee that federal investigators have launched a criminal investigation into suggestions of collusion between Russia and Donald Trump's campaign during 2016 presidential election. Accusations claim that Russia tried to influence the election by hacking the Democratic National Committee and releasing information embarrassing to Hillary Clinton.

During the hearing, Mr Comey and Mr Rogers - head of NSA - said they had no evidence or intelligence that Russian hacking changed vote tallies in key states during the election.
Comey said it was FBI practice not to confirm the existence of an investigation, especially one involving classified material, but in this case it was in the public interest to do so. He said the probe, which began last summer, included whether there was any co-ordination between individuals associated with the Trump campaign and the Russian government.

"Because it is an open, ongoing investigation and is classified, I cannot say more about what we are doing and whose conduct we are examining.”

The US government alleged last summer that Russian intelligence had tried to interfere with the presidential election, in an apparent attempt to help Mr Trump. Adam Schiff, the top Democrat on the committee, suggested one of the reasons Vladimir Putin's Russia had wanted to encourage Trump's candidacy was because the billionaire was in favour of Brexit.

Trump long rejected the claim that Russia had came to his assistance in a series of early-morning tweets. Moscow also denied the allegations. "The NSA and FBI tell Congress that Russia did not influence electoral process,” Trump then tweeted.

Trump claimed that the Democrats had “made up and pushed the Russian story as an excuse for running a terrible campaign”.

“The real story that Congress, the FBI and all others should be looking into is the leaking of Classified information,” he added. “Must find leaker now!”

Comey also  shot down claims by President Trump that his predecessor Barack Obama had him wiretapped, saying there is no evidence to support Donald Trump's claim that he was wiretapped by Barack Obama.

Trump created a controversy in early March when he tweeted without giving evidence that former President Barack Obama's administration had wiretapped Trump Tower in New York.

"With respect to the president's tweets about alleged wiretapping directed at him by the prior administration, I have no information that supports those tweets

"With respect to the president's tweets about alleged wiretapping directed at him by the prior administration, I have no information that supports those tweets” Comey said. “And we have looked carefully inside the FBI. The Department of Justice has asked me to share with you that the answer is the same for the Department of Justice and all its components: the department has no information that supports those tweets.”

The Senate's top Democrat says that President Donald Trump “severely damaged his credibility” with Twitter postings claiming that former President Barack Obama ordered wiretaps of him.

The entire hearing before the House Intelligence Committee

Despite if Comey said they do not have information to back up what Trump said about Obama wiretapping him, Trump’s press secretary said the president won’t be apologising. This behaviour is a new proof of immaturity from him. Also, posting tweets on Twitter claiming that former President Barack Obama ordered wiretaps of him without any proof has - one more time - severely damaged his credibility.

Unfortunately, since Trump is President of the US, he has been more noticed for escapades or to be at the heart of controversy, than for good projects or ideas to resolve problems of his country. When we know the power of the US, it is worrying to know that it is a man like him who is the president of the country.
